I was perusing through the Library of Congress photo collection and stumbled across this advertisement from 1907 extolling San Diego’s virtues. Harbor. Climate. Opportunity. Investment. Profit.
If I didn’t know better, I’d suspect that the guy who came up with this advertisement was Hitler himself.
The ad is for the “Homeland Improvement Co.” It extolls San Diego’s “Supremecy” and touts San Diego as the “Ideal Homeland.” And then there’s the whole, swasticas and “guy in the corner doing the Heil Hitler gesture”.
Check out this photo though. Its gotta be downtown San Diego before there was a downtown San Diego, right?
