The Wire: The Complete Series for $134.
This is the best show in the history of television. I’ll go further. The best use of the video medium ever. Five seasons is about sixty hours, so, about $2 an hour.

A show that was so well put together and that keeps you wanting more. Even an hour a show didn’t give it justice.
This sounds good. I know absolutely NOTHING about this show. This sounds like something for the summer doldrums next year.
You may want to check that link again. ITs now listed for only $90.
I just picked up the entire run at Best Buy for $89. Looking forward to starting it this summer.
That’s an incredible price. When the show was running single seasons would start out at about $80.
I dare you to watch the first six hours of season one. If you do that you’ll be totally hooked and you won’t be able to wait until summer.
I discovered the show four days before the start of season four. Season four was to start on a sunday night. I started season one on Wednesday night at about midnight. I got so into it I watched approximately 39 hours of the Wire over the next 96 hours, taking time off in the middle to go to a wedding.
Its an incredibly powerful show. Like nothing I’ve ever seen.
Watched episode one. Nothing happening yet. There was a bit of a foreshadowing moment where McClusky or whatever his name is gets to go behind the scenes of a drug investigation operations center. They teased a lot of cool tech, but then completely ignore it for the rest of the ep.
Will probably do ep. 2 later this week. I like the main character, at least, he seems interesting. I’m concerned about the writing. It’s very “edgy”, like all the people say “cool things”, doesn’t seem natural, but I think the writers will need some time to feel out the characters. It’s moving fast, which can hurt the feel of a show early on, but can help establish a lot of causality potential more quickly, which, I think would reward someone viewing the episodes in rapid succession.
The accepted way of announcing that you’ve started watching season 1 of the Wire is to announce that Snot Boogie just got shot!!
Yeah, its slow to get going. Unlike most shows there often is not any particular plot line that is resolved during each episode. Each season should more properly be treated as one 12 hour long episode. It takes a little bit of getting used to. Half way through season four I thought it was the worst season so far. By the end of the season it was my favorite.
McNulty is a great character. Omar is a great character. You’ll like D’Angelo by the end of season one. You’ll like Stringer Bell by the end of season three. Bubs, Dookie and a few others are just plain tragic. Clay Davis should run for councilman in Chicago.
Don’t worry ’bout the writing. Its good.
Episode 2 is in the can. More of the same until the final scene. A kid gets hit and goes blind in one eye. Well delivered. Made more more interested to keep watching. I like the junkie helping the cops, he seems the most authentic so far.
No, the writings great. That’s what’s weird. Dirt ball cops (drunks and screwups) in west end Baltimore shouldn’t be so pensive in their conversations. The writers camouflage it with lots of “F” words and such, but these guys are big thinkers and at this point, it feels unnatural. The wife actually asked if I wanted to watch it tonight, so that’s a good sign she’s interested. It makes it easier if I don’t have to make “alone” time to watch something.
How far along are you now?
Halfway through Season 4. I’ve actually liked this one from the beginning. I can’t decide how I feel about Carcetti, and it’s looking like Daniels might make it big. Omar is in the brig and Marlo is getting involved with Prop Joe. Its setting up to be a solid finale, that’s for sure.
